SOME RECOMMENDATIONS FOR BEGINNERS
1
Make sure you drink a lot of water, at least three hours before a class. If you can avoid eating anything during the six hours before you start your yoga, that would be ideal. If not, a light meal and two hours to ensure total digestion will enable you to enjoy your exercise in comfort.
2
When you practice yoga you are taking time for yourself. So leave yourself enough time. Make sure you arrive 15 minutes before the class begins. For your first class, try to arrive 30 minutes in advance so that you can register and discover the environment where your class will be held.
3
Your yoga outfit should be comfortable. For hot yoga carried out under hot conditions you should wear an outfit that allows you to perspire. For women this will ideally be leggings and a sports bra. Men are advised to wear shorts.
4
You will need to have two towels when practicing hot yoga : one for after your shower, and one on your yoga mat (1m80). You can obtain towels on site.
5
Yoga is carried out barefoot. Special zones with cork flooring are reserved for this. So avoid wearing any footwear with soles.
6
It is advisable that you have a bottle of water with you when practicing hot yoga.
7
When you choose your spot in the yoga room, don’t hesitate to pick places in the third or second rows so that you can take inspiration from other yogis.
8
Don’t put yourself under pressure. Yoga isn’t a competition to see who performs best. You might sometimes have images in your mind of poses magnificently interpreted. But in fact the purpose of yoga is above all to obtain internal benefits. That may take time. Your body has a history and your mind is full of resistance. Give yourself time. Bombay wasn’t built in a day ! We human beings are constantly evolving. You have perhaps been a rather dynamic person, you might need a more grounded and calm type of exercise ? Or perhaps you are the opposite ? Bandha Yoga has a wide choice of different forms of yoga for you to practice.
Listen to your body and your mind and above all make sure you enjoy yourself !
